REDLANDS Debi and John Hoss exchanged pines for palms, natural rock formations for designed formations, freezing temperatures for a more moderate zone, and a short flowering season for a longer one when they sold their home in Forest Falls and moved to Redlands three years ago. Now the front yard of the Hoss family, at 1059 W. Clifton Ave., has brought them recognition from the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society's Front Yard of the Month program. They are the February honorees.
There is a subtle difference between an herb and a spice. Although most herbs come from leaves and seeds, spices come from fruit, roots, bark and berries. There are some exceptions. The roots of some herbs are useful, as are the leaves of some spices. One can also classify temperate-climate plants as herbs and tropical plants as spices. Spices have more flavors or are hotter to the taste than herbs.
Rose Pruning Demo to Be Held in Rialto
RIALTO A rose pruning demonstration sponsored and conducted by the Inland Empire Master Gardeners will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Rialto Senior Center, 1411 S. Riverside Ave. Barbara Dawson will be the lead demonstrator. The public is encouraged to attend and bring their gloves and clippers.
