The patchwork of 32 board-governed districts that make up the San Bernardino County Fire Department will amass $15.9 million in debt over the next six years unless supervisors make changes.

Fire Chief Peter Hills and Associate Administrative Officer Norm Kanold relayed that prediction to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday when they presented the results of a 14-month study of the Fire Department's financial future.
