Summary
Bats are not flawless examples of loyalty or domestic tranquility. In late summer both sexes are in peak condition, just coated with fat, as they prepare for five months of hibernation. They meet at local swarming sites where males cling to cave walls and direct squeaks, squawks and ultrasonic wolf whistles at females cruising up and down the hallway. Females stop to spend time with several different males along the way.
