A Cross of the Seal Violates the California Constitution

Divorce your emotions and please think rationally. My neighbors and voters who still believe the federal constitution somehow might allow a cross on the Redlands' seal should know that the Constitution of California prohibits the city from spending any money to display or defend the proposed city seal: "Neither the Legislature, nor any municipal corporation, shall ever make an appropriation, or pay from any public fund whatever, or grant anything to or in aid of any religious sect, church, creed, or sectarian purpose" (Article XVI, Section 5).

A cross on government property aids a sectarian purpose. If Measure Q is passed, the citywould have to violate the state constitution. This is another reason to vote no on Measure Q.
