Rome wasn't built in a day! On the other hand, Disneyland opened a year to the day after construction began. Almost as amazing, is the fact that Cope Junior High School first opened its doors to students on April 22, 1957, not even two years since breaking ground for the 23-acre campus on June 29, 1955.
Land costs totaled $89,850 while building costs for Phase One topped out at $500,000. The school board approved a total of $4 million to complete the new junior high named in honor of Edward Mitchell Cope, a 30-year member of the Redlands school board, local businessman and philanthropist. In support of the board's decision, voters committed to a 25-cent property tax to finance construction.See the full content of this document
