Driver Charged with Murder in Death of Redlands Man

Summary


REDLANDS - A Redlands man who was a member of a rescue team on their way to search for a missing hiker was killed early Saturday morning when a driver allegedly under the influence of drugs lost consciousness and slammed into the Sheriff's Department rescue vehicle. The driver has been arrested for murder.

Early Saturday morning, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Search and Rescue vehicle was driving west on State Route 62 approaching Navajo Trail. Volunteer Dave Atchley of Redlands was driving the vehicle. Passengers included Phil Calvert of Mentone, Shane Elliot of Redlands, Scott Johnson of Redlands and Bob Blank.
