Oscar Watch: '3:10 to Yuma' has Brains and Brawn

Summary

" 3:10 to Yuma " is a thought-provoking thrill ride. It keeps you on the edge of your seat by combining the best of the brains and the brawn of revisionist Westerns. " 3:10 to Yuma " is sure to be a new classic along the lines of "Unforgiven," "The Last Wagon," "A Fistful of Dollars" and "Dances with Wolves." This film is the second adaptation of the short story by Elmore Leonard. The original film was first shown on the big screen in 1957. Directors and producers of the 1960s reworked the classic Western of the 1950s, creating revisionist Westerns. This genre introduced characters that question the simple hero vs. villain motif and the need to use violence to prove oneself.

" 3:10 to Yuma " had all the great gunslinger battles, stagecoach chases and black vs. white hat drama typical of the traditional Western. Yet by the end of this film, the good looked a bit grimy and the bad looked a bit better for the wear.
