Summary
On several occasions during his political career Abraham Lincoln expressed a strong interest in California.
His opposition as a congressman to the expansionist 1846 Mexican- American War did not prevent him from designating California "the best part of our acquisition from Mexico." According to Mary Lincoln's later account, Abraham confided to her in 1865 that he was interested in traveling to California at the conclusion of his second term.See the full content of this document
