"It started with wanting to get rid of lawn," she said. "Then I realized I needed a pathway for the mail carrier. Well, if you are going to have a path you need an entryway, so you need an arch. Then, of course, you need a focal point, so how about a fountain? Since the house was built in 1924, then an heirloom rose that was introduced in the same year is a given. Being as painted ladies come through every year, a butterfly garden is a must, which means California natives are a must."
