Local retailers felt the day-after-Thanksgiving rush Friday as people took advantage of Christmas sales.

According to Ashley Allen, a sales clerk at J.C. Penney on Lugonia Avenue, "People were in sleeping bags all the way around the corner of the store" when it opened at 5 a.m. "We were giving out free snow globes to the first so many customers," she said. Sweaters, men's slacks and children's clothing appeared to be the popular apparel, according to Allen.
