Boysenberry rosaceae, a variety of blackberry, grows very well in Southern California and in our mountains. These deciduous plants grow on erect stems covered with bright-green leaves dusted with white underneath. The purplish-red edible cores (raspberries are hollow) and their fruits are actually clusters of drupelets (individual seed-containing units) which make up the whole fruit.
