Editor's note: The Redlands Unified School District board recently settled on naming a new middle school in Loma Linda after either Ben Barton, the first doctor in the valley who established a school in his home on what is now Barton Road, or Anson Van Leuven, a Mormon settler who grew up in Loma Linda and is credited with planting the first citrus tree here.
