Summary

REDLANDS The October Tree of the Month was the "maytenus boaria" or mayten tree. A member of the celastraceae (bittersweets) family, the "maytenus boaria" is native to Chile, where they are commonly found in pastures. There, the cattle enjoy the leaves of these trees so much that they will not touch anything else when they are available. These airy trees found their way to England in 1822 and to North America in 1878.
