Why Do We Reward People Who Come Here Illegally?

Summary


Should those who break our laws by coming here illegally and continuing to show lack of respect for those laws by stealing someone's identity (Social Security number), drive without a license or insurance, and take part in demonstrations whereby police are threatened with bodily harm, be rewarded with that most precious gift - American citizenship? When Bush recently met with newly elected Mexican President Calderon, meeting took place at Calderon's ranch in Meridia because riots in Mexico City were feared. Is this what we want for the United States? Anarchy?

A senator is reported saying that Americans must not care about amnesty because so few have spoken out against it. Not care! I thought that was shown with last year's attempts at amnesty. Details of the negotiations, conducted behind closed doors, were only made public last Thursday. And now the Senate may pass this bill without floor debate because the Republicans realize the benefits to get this issue behind them, to paraphrase Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. "What's in a name?" Benefits for whom? Not for American taxpayers!
